The South Carthay Neighborhood Association was founded in 1980 to help to preserve South Carthay’s enclave of housing as originally designed, and to maintain the quality of life established in the community. To further preserve the originality and quality of our community's architecture, members of the Association worked vigorously with the City's Planning Department to have South Carthay declared a Historical Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ ). This designation, received in 1984, provides specific guidelines for all exterior architectural design and renovation projects that are initiated within our community. Please refer to additional information regarding the HPOZ included within the "Welcome" packet.

Over the years, the Association and its numerous committees have worked extremely hard to promote and support many community projects, including local tree planting, graffiti removal and mitigation of traffic and parking problems.

The South Carthay Neighborhood Association Communications Committee produces and distributes a periodic newsletter to all residents ( renters and owners ) to help keep everyone informed of important localized issues, concerns, and projects which influence each one of us and our community as a whole. E-mail notices are also sent to those residents requesting them. To be included on the e-mail distribution list, send your e-mail address to Brad S. Kane (KaneLawFirm@aol.com).

To further promote and enhance the safety and security of our neighborhood, an armed patrol service is available to all residents for a nominal monthly fee. Please note that the more people who subscribe to the service, the more hours of patrol we receive. Contact Security Service Systems for further information (310) 477-2095.

The South Carthay Neighborhood Association is open to both renters and home owners alike, and we invite you to join. (See link to membership form on events page) The Association holds six meetings per year, which are open to all residents. Look for date and location announcements in the newsletter or on signs in the neighborhood. Your membership and volunteer participation are vital elements in the continued success and enhancement of our community. With your support, South Carthay will continue to be a special place in which to live.
